Nesbitt blows them away. Again...
May 2016 - Gloucester Elmrep sponsor rising young motorcycle racing star
A 15-year old motorbike racing prodigy is speeding towards national championship success with the help of county photocopier specialists Elmrep.
Charlie Nesbitt, nicknamed ‘Spud’, has been riding since he could walk and by the age of six was already a British champion in the Mini Moto class.
Since then, his passion and talent for the sport has continued to grow. He has won a further two Moto Mini Championships and ranks highly in a wide range of top motorcycle events, including the 70cc Catalan Spanish Championship.
This year, he is gearing up for the British Motostar Moto3 Championship for the third year running, riding the bike that won the championship last year. And sponsoring him is Gloucester-based Elmrep, a longstanding local firm that specialises in photocopiers, printers and scanners.
The unusual choice of sponsorship sprang out of Managing Director Lee Summers’ lifelong passion for motorbike racing and fond memories of growing up participating in the sport.
Speaking about his decision to sponsor Charlie, Lee said: “I’ve known of Charlie for years as he’s the son of a lad I used to race with years ago, but that’s not actually why I’m sponsoring him or how it came about.
“I grew up with a couple of young racers, Scott Redding and Danny Kent, who are now competing in the World Championships with MotoGP. And seeing them get on to the world stage and having seen Charlie coming on so well over a number of years, I knew that he had a great future ahead of him just like them.
“But I didn’t think anything of it, until a friend of mine, Rob Ayland from Completely Motorbikes in Staverton, contacted me and said ‘I’ve just sponsored this lad and I think you should as well.’ When I checked what he’d sent, I realised it was Spud!”
Charlie, who currently goes to school in Swindon, is now being sponsored by two Gloucestershire companies: Elmrep and Completely Motorbikes.
He is currently looking for other Gloucestershire sponsors to help him towards completing the season.
Lee added: “As a motorbike event, I don’t expect to sell a photocopier from this, it’s just purely giving back to the sport that I enjoy because I can see these lads coming through and they need a bit of help sometimes to get to the next level.
“I know Charlie will do that. He’ll probably go on to the Spanish Championships next year and go on from there to MotoGP. He is that good.”
Team Principal Nick Carpenter of e3 Motorsport has been involved in motorcycle racing for more than 40 years and as a rider himself for 11 years.
Nick said: “We hope other Gloucestershire businesses will come on board as sponsors as well. It is a great opportunity to get involved and support a local boy who has a massive future in the sport.”
